Gut Health Is the New Glow-Up

Updated: Aug 8

How Gut Health and What You Sip Impacts Your Skin, Mood, and Energy

We're finally talking about it — gut health isn't just about digestion. For a lot of us in our 40s and beyond, it's quietly tied to how our skin looks, how steady our mood feels, and how much energy we actually have to give.

I used to chalk up the bloating, the brain fog, the mood that shifted for no clear reason to "just getting older." It wasn't until I understood what was actually happening — that stress was quietly changing how my gut worked, which was changing everything downstream — that the pieces started to make sense.

“...once I started focusing on what went in my glass, everything started shifting.” -- Nelea Lane, CMWC

Why Gut Health Is Part of the Bigger Picture

Your gut is in constant conversation with the rest of your body — including the systems behind your mood, your stress response, and your energy. When stress stays elevated, that conversation gets disrupted. That's often why bloating and burnout show up together, or why a rough gut day tracks with a rough mood day. It's not random. It's a signal. (You can read more about how stress shows up in digestion on the Digestion Is a Stress Signal page.)

How is Stress Showing Up for You?

  • Bloating or digestive stuff

  • Brain fog

  • Mood swings out of nowhere

  • Energy crash (afternoon or all day)

You can vote for more than one answer.

The Sip-First Approach

Instead of trying to overhaul everything at once, I started with one daily functional drink: Happy Juice — a gut-brain support mocktail I make each morning.

Two minutes every morning. Consistently. Not a dramatic intervention. A foundation.

Happy Juice is where I always suggest women start.

That's what actually started shifting things for me — not because it fixed everything overnight, but because it gave my gut-brain connection something steady to work with every day, instead of one more thing fighting against the stress it was already managing.

In this guide you'll see the exact drinks I use every day — and the stack that helped me feel like me again? Inside you'll find a collection of my favorite mocktail recipes inside.

Because your gut isn't separate from your stress. It's one of the places stress shows up first.

Until next time — sip well, feel better, and take care of your gut health.
